Precautions for a Planned Power Outage

We apologize for the inconvenience and ask you to take suitable preparations for a power outage, as described below.

If there are medical devices such as a medical ventilator in your home
Please switch to battery operation or take other suitable precautions. If your health condition or that of a person in your household may be affected by the interruption of power, please consult your doctor or medical facility beforehand.
Minimize door opening/closing of refrigerators/cold rooms
Minimize door opening and take precautions such as cold pack stacking to maintain low temperature in refrigerators, cold rooms, etc.
Make sure you can receive information via radio, mobile phone, etc.
Keep in mind that your TV set and most landline telephones will not be functional during a power outage. Prepare alternative means for receiving information (battery powered radio, mobile phone, etc.). Have spare batteries at hand, and make sure that your mobile devices are fully charged.
Turn off your PC
Save all data on your PCs and other equipment and turn off the power of the equipment. If the power outage starts while a computer or similar equipment is being operated, data currently being input may be lost and/or the equipment may be damaged.
Monitor water quality and temperature in aquariums and fish tanks
Disperse fish from aquariums into live fish tanks or prepare a battery-operated air pump.
Do not use elevators
Do not use elevators when a power outage is scheduled, to avoid being trapped.
Take special care at intersections
Proceed with extra care to ensure safety at intersections where traffic lights are not functioning.
Automatic doors and door locks may not function
Be aware that automatic doors at shops, automatic door locks at residential buildings, etc. will not function during a power outage. Security systems may also not be functioning.
Handling electric appliances using motors
Disconnect the power cords of electric appliances using motors from the outlet before a power outage, to guard against the risk of accidents.
Turn off circuit breakers when going out
Before going out, turning off breakers on distribution panels is recommended for safety.
Monitor your condition
Because air conditioners, fans and similar appliances will not be functional during a power outage, be aware of the risk of heat strokes in the summer season.
Cold locations
In cold areas during winter, anti-freeze equipment may not function, causing water pipes and water heater piping to freeze.
